jim and claudine think of a new ay to go through the woods they use umbrellas to put over there head and head out into the woods it sounded like a hurricane going on with all of the beaks pecking the umbrellas they keep going into the woods and they see a boat just sitting there and it was baby bums they ran as fast as they could to get back to their shelter they got there and hid with a little peak hole that the misquotes were getting through so they set up some obstacles so that they could hear if baby bum was coming and they sat there under there boat and listened then they heard the seagulls going crazy out there and they now baby bum is roaming around out there

jim gets out from under the boat to do something and whe he steps put he sees all of the seagulls stareing at him they yellow eyes looked like a million little yellow lights all aroung him he stood still and held it there for a little while then he took whe step twords the thick bushes and they all attacked hundreds of then pounced on the him he ran back to the boat in pain listening to his heatr pound

they get realy paniced becuase they are drifting right twords the rocks so cladine throws the anchor and as its going down it snaps so they figur out a way to get inot a crrunt that takes the to the islnad when they are almost there they see a seagul come in and attack them and they a hole bunch attack jims head starts bleading they pull the boat up on the island flip it up side down and hide under it

they are sitting there in the water jim gose down to unhook the mast and sail and he dose so they move it up right and put the plug back in it so that they can bail it out they start splashing water out of the boat with the oarsthey finnaly get it emptyed so that they can get in it so they get in it and start rowingand notice that theyre not going anywhere

as jim and claudine are rowing out this the island they are having a good time and laughing the jim yells put on your life jacket and claudine yells why then she looked ahead and about 100 yards he saw a massive wall of water coming at them at 50 yards the wave broke and the water just came charging at them as that water came poring at them throwing jim and claudine from the boat shoving stomach muscles towards their stomachs the salt water burning their eyes they were both thrown 50 feet on each side of the boat they got back together but the boat was upside down and they are dead in the water

they g home and tell their parents about how the old lady was trying to get them to stop selling clams the next day they plan how there going to go out to the monument and they make a list of what there going to bring and they remembered baby bum could be anywhere the next day they go clam digging and they had to because the tide was coming in they sold they're clams and made there way out to the island they were nervous and they planned were they were going to beach there boat on the way out a porpoise jumped in front of them

Jim and Claudine are selling clams on the side of the road one day like they usually do and they old lady that they used to sell to pulls up in her car because they're making more money than her and all of the other clammers aren't selling to them and she says do you have a license for this and jim and claudine said no were selling clams not driving cars and she said u are selling things that require a licensee they argue with her for a little while then she drives away and they say i wonder if shes right they go home to tell their parents and they plan on going out to the monument soon

they get to the old mans house and they were both nervous then one of them nocked on the door and the old man came to the door they went and sat down they ask the old man a lot f questions about the history of the town and then they asked him about the history of of the monument and the old mans eyes get really wide and he said no i know nothing about it nobody dose that island is cursed then he tells them a story how a fishing boat was coming back to port in biddeford pool and the had been fighting a nor easter and the boat went down and they found the life boats on the shore of stage island (island the monument is on) and there was no signs of life they even fired muskets and there was no signs of life on none of they good men in the town would go out there to look for dead ones they leave and the old man tells them not to get any crazy ideas and go out there or they will regret it they leave and the old man tells them to come back another time he said an old man gets lonely

the next day jim and claudine go clam digging and they see what looked like a 1000 crabs on top of each other so they moved some of the crabs and it is the body of the dead man they are realy scared and and the state police come and they tell them they belive their story now they go clamming and the old lady that always rips them of gets mad at them and wont buy their clams so they decide to sell clams and the side of the rode and they almost double there money and other clammers start selling to them a phew weeks later they go to someone's house to ask them questions

beginning

in the beginning of the book Jim and Claudine r wondering what a monument on an island near their house was used for and why its their and they want to go out to really bad the next day they go clam digging and while they are rowing out to the spot to dig they see to men fighting over a digging spot then they see one of the men stab another the other man with a clam digger and kills him then the alive one sees jim and claudine and chases them across the clam flat then they get stuck in some clay and they find out the guys name is baby bum and he says there stuck and hel let the tide take care of them the get out and tell the police and the police dont believe them so a couple months go by with out any sighting of baby bum then one day they go exploring and the come up to an old junky car and the that some one was living in it then baby bum jumps out and kocks out jim with a metal lunch box claudine hits him this a stick and her and jim run away and baby bum say him and his freinds are gunna kill them and their familys
